Irene Johnson, 95, Glenfield, N.D., died Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Golden Acres Manor, Carrington, N.D.

Irene Anna Pewe was born Nov. 13, 1915, at McHenry, N.D., the daughter of Charley and Rosa (Barnes) Pewe. She grew up and attended school at McHenry and graduated from McHenry High School in 1934. She married Walfred E. Johnson on Sept. 28, 1943, at Carrington. They lived in Avon, Pa. She returned to McHenry and lived with her parents while he was serving in the military. They later lived and farmed at Glenfield, N.D., on the Johnson family farm. He died Sept. 11, 1991. She lived at Cooperstown Medical Center Nursing Home, Cooperstown, N.D., starting in January 2009 and moved to Golden Acres Manor, Carrington, in July 2009. She was a member of Prairie Faith Lutheran Church, formerly Glenfield Lutheran Church , and the Glenfield Homemakers. She enjoyed doing needlework, sewing, and raising flowers.

She is survived by a daughter, JoAnn (Leonard) Simenson, Glenfield; a daughter-in-law, Carol Johnson, Cooperstown; a brother, Edmund, Ashley, N.D.; a sister, Marie Anderson, Jamestown; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Quentin; and a brother, Louie.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Prairie Faith Lutheran Church, Glenfield, with the Rev. Bryce Formwalt officiating.

Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. today, Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Burial: Glenfield Cemetery, Glenfield.
