Part of N.D. Highway 22 closing
North Dakota transportation officials have closed part of a heavily traveled state highway in western North Dakota.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota transportation officials have closed part of a heavily traveled state highway in western North Dakota.
A stretch of State Highway 22 about 18 miles north of Killdeer was closed at midday Friday.
The road goes through some hilly badlands and has a number of curves. The Department of Transportation says a highway embankment has shifted and caused the pavement to buckle.
The problem is blamed on wet conditions, but the road also has heavy truck traffic from the oil industry.
State officials say they're not sure yet when the road will be reopened. Highway traffic will not be allowed south from the “Lost Bridge” for three miles.
