BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Fargo attorney Mark Schneider has been re-elected as chairman of the North Dakota Democratic Party, but he doesn't plan to serve for long.
The state Democratic policy committee on Saturday picked Schneider for another term without opposition.
Former Minot state Rep. Kari (KAHR'-ee) Conrad dropped plans to run for the job herself.
Schneider has been the party's leader for almost two years. He intends to step down in September after new party director Andrew Zabel (ZAY'-bul) has gotten established.
Schneider says he'll be appointing a committee to recruit new candidates for the party chairmanship.
Schneider says former Democratic state tax commissioner candidate Cynthia Kaldor and former Democratic state senators JoNell Bakke (BAHK'-ee) of Grand Forks and Tom Fiebiger (FEE'-big-ur) of Fargo have said they're interested in running for chairman.
