Fargo escapee changes plea

A man who left a Fargo halfway house when told he was going to be searched by authorities wants to take back a guilty plea in federal court.

FARGO (AP) — A man who left a Fargo halfway house when told he was going to be searched by authorities wants to take back a guilty plea in federal court.

Perry Paul pleaded guilty in April to escape by a federal prisoner. He filed a motion earlier this week to withdraw the plea.

The 36-year-old Paul said he was not competent to enter a plea at the April hearing. He cited a presentence report that describes a history of mental illness.

Court documents show that Paul ran away from Centre Inc. in August. He was arrested in December in Browns Valley, Minn.
