ORISKA, N.D. (AP) — The congregation of a century-old church in southeast North Dakota that was destroyed by fire gathered in the gymnasium at Maple Valley Elementary School on Sunday for services.

Bishop Bill Rindy of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Eastern North Dakota Synod told parishioners that Zion Lutheran Church in Oriska “is very much alive.”

The Times-Record reports that church members plan to meet in the school gym the rest of the summer, while they decide their next step.

Authorities believe the May 16 blaze was electrical in nature. No one was hurt.
