Valley City looking for sandbag storage spot

Valley City is looking for a home for about 65,000 filled sandbags left over after this year's battle against Sheyenne River flooding.

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — Valley City is looking for a home for about 65,000 filled sandbags left over after this year's battle against Sheyenne River flooding.

The Times-Record reports that City Administrator Jon Cameron wants the city to rent a place to store the bags for the next year. Fire Chief Gary Retterath says he's looking for a suitable spot.

The city bought 200,000 sandbags from Fargo at the height of spring flooding, for $1.20 apiece. The leftovers are being stored at a vacant lot.

Barnes County also bought 200,000 bags, and has about 90,000 left. The city and county have talked about renting a storage place together.
