FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A Fargo man has been sentenced to a year in jail for sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman who had passed out at a park.
The Forum newspaper reports that Benjamin Butzer Veerkamp pleaded guilty to a felony charge of gross sexual imposition and was sentenced on Friday in East Central District Court.
Assistant Cass County State's Attorney Mark Boening says Veerkamp and the victim had consensual sex but Veerkamp continued to have sexual contact with the woman after she passed out.
Boening says the woman was so intoxicated that emergency workers arriving on the scene thought she was dead.
