The Jamestown City Engineer’s Office is strongly advising people in central, northern and southeast Jamestown to continue to keep floor drains plugged. The advisory was issued as a press release Wednesday.
High sanitary sewer flows, three to four times normal, continue and are expected to continue through June and possibly through July, the office said. These flows appear to be larger and more volatile than they were last year during similar high river level conditions.
The high flows lead to the extreme potential for highly localized sewer backup conditions.
The city is also restating its requests that:
* All sump pumps should be immediately removed from the sanitary sewer system anywhere in the city.
* All residents should adopt an odd/even plan for heavy water usage. Even-numbered houses should do laundry or run dishwashers on even-numbered days while odd-numbered homes should perform those tasks on odd-numbered days.
* Homes anywhere in Jamestown should consider plugging floor drains. High sanitary sewer flows have been reported in parts of Jamestown outside the river valley.
