Man charged with impersonation

BISMARCK (AP) — A Medina, N.D., man who says he was hired to investigate alleged corruption in the small town of Zeeland has been charged with impersonating a police officer.

Darrell Graf told The Bismarck Tribune that he doesn’t think he needed a peace officer or private investigator license because he was appointed by the mayor and was acting under the authority of the City Council. He maintains his innocence.

State crime bureau Special Agent Arnie Rummel said the portion of state law that allows for reserve officers applies to licensed law enforcement agencies, and the police department set up in Zeeland in April isn’t licensed.

Graf runs the North Dakota Fire Academy. He was a law officer in Medina in the early 1980s. The charge against him is a misdemeanor.
