Jamestown First Avenue to remain closed through weekend

The intersection of First Ave South and Second Street in Jamestown will remain closed through the weekend, according to Reed Schwartzkopf, city engineer.

The intersection of First Ave South and Second Street in Jamestown will remain closed through the weekend, according to Reed Schwartzkopf, city engineer.

A water main break under the intersection was detected Thursday about noon. Work locating and repairing the break concluded Thursday just before midnight.

Efforts Friday included filling and packing the hole with pouring of cement scheduled for late Friday or Saturday. Schwartzkopf estimates the streets will reopen Monday or possibly Tuesday after the cement has cured.
