Man pleads not guilty in fatal ND shooting

A Mandan man has pleaded not guilty to three felonies in an October shooting that left another man dead.

MANDAN, N.D. (AP) — A Mandan man has pleaded not guilty to three felonies in an October shooting that left another man dead.

Twenty-five-year-old Steven Voegele (VOH’-guhl) is charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and terrorizing in the Oct. 2 shooting outside a party. Police say the shooting was sparked by an argument over the whereabouts of an iPod music player.

Twenty-two-year-old Xavier Thompson was killed. Voegele was injured. Both men had gunshot wounds, and The Bismarck Tribune reports that court records indicate the two men shot one another.

The man who lives at the home where the shootings occurred, Nicholas Reed, has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of hindering law enforcement and giving false information to officers.

Both Voegele and Reed are free on bond while they await trial Sept. 8.
