Bismarck area has rash of bogus bills

BISMARCK (AP) — Police are investigating a rash of counterfeit money being passed at businesses in Bismarck and neighboring Mandan. One arrest has been made.

BISMARCK (AP) — Police are investigating a rash of counterfeit money being passed at businesses in Bismarck and neighboring Mandan. One arrest has been made.

Authorities say they have received numerous reports of bogus bills in bank business deposits in the past two weeks. The cases are being referred to the Secret Service.

Police said the counterfeiters appear to be using a chemical process to erase images from $1 bills and reprint them with images for larger currency, such as $20 and $50 bills.

Mandan police said a 24-year-old woman was charged early this month with passing counterfeit money at a grocery store.
