Padres to retire Hoffman’s No. 51

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Padres plan to retire Trevor Hoffman’s No. 51 in a ceremony on Aug. 21 after a game against the Florida Marlins. Hoffman, baseball’s all-time leader with 601 saves, retired in January after playing 18 big league seasons. He’s a special assistant in the Padres’ front office.
