MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Minot State University President David Fuller says the decision to keep the school open during what is forecast to be record Souris River flooding in the city was not taken lightly.

Fuller says the university has an obligation to provide the classes students have paid for, not just for students on campus but for those in other cities who take courses at remote sites or through means such as the Internet and interactive video.

Officials say MSU also has become the base for emergency workers and others and is helping host evacuees.

Dikes are being built to protect the south end of the campus. Departments in the sublevels of campus buildings have been relocated.
