Basilica holding Corpus Christi Festival Processional

Sunday in the Catholic Church is the feast of the body and blood of Christ — in Latin known as Corpus Christi. In many countries and in several locations in the U.S. and North Dakota, great celebrations are held to honor this feast and this gift given directly from Jesus.

St. James Basilica of Jamestown will have its first Corpus Christi Festival Processional starting at 2 p.m. Sunday. It’s expected to become an annual event.

Everyone is invited to be a part of the processional, especially those who have received their first communion in the recent past. If possible, the first communicants are asked to wear their first communion attire.

The 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will lead the processional. Other knights are also invited to participate in the processional.

Prayers will be said during the processional

A brief outline of events:

* Eucharistic exposition, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

* Procession from church to St. John’s Academy beginning at 2 p.m. (litany for Corpus Christi prayed along the way)

* Short service and Reposition of the Blessed Sacrament on the academy grounds, approximately 2:15 p.m.

* Air games for the children on school grounds, approximately from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

* Cake and ice cream treats and conversation in the Zebedee Center, approximately from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
