Storms put damper on holiday in southeast ND

Strong storms put a damper on the Fourth of July holiday for many people in southeastern North Dakota.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Strong storms put a damper on the Fourth of July holiday for many people in southeastern North Dakota.

KFGO radio reports that rural homes in the Mapleton and Grandin areas suffered major damage. A weather spotter reported a funnel cloud in the area but the National Weather Service did not immediately confirm a tornado. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

The Forum newspaper reports that tornado warnings set off sirens in the Fargo-Moorhead area Monday night. The annual fireworks display at Minnesota State University Moorhead was canceled.
