MANDAN, N.D. (AP) — A resident caused a stir when he found a homemade explosive device near the Heart River and brought it into the Law Enforcement Center in Mandan.
The Bismarck Tribune reports that the Mandan LEC was evacuated for about 1 ½ hours Tuesday while the police bomb squad from neighboring Bismarck was called in. The bomb squad dismantled the device and no one was hurt.
Police say it appears someone made the device out of “a large amount” of fireworks, and that it had the potential to cause serious injuries. They say anyone who finds a suspicious device should leave it alone and notify authorities.
