Emerado recalls mayor

Residents of the small northeast North Dakota town of Emerado have voted to recall their mayor.

EMERADO, N.D. (AP) — Residents of the small northeast North Dakota town of Emerado have voted to recall their mayor.

City Auditor Steve Burke said Brent Aspinwall lost the position to challenger Dan Henneman by four votes in Tuesday’s recall election in the community of about 400 people west of Grand Forks.

A canvassing board is to meet Friday but Burke said it’s a formality and the election will stand.

A group of people petitioned for the recall election after the town’s police chief resigned in March, saying he didn’t feel he had the respect and support of city leaders.

A telephone listing for Aspinwall was not in service Wednesday.
