Street Festival a good reason to be festive

We don’t need a reason to have fun, but if we did, Friday’s Downtown Jamestown Street Festival would be a perfect excuse.

We don’t need a reason to have fun, but if we did, Friday’s Downtown Jamestown Street Festival would be a perfect excuse.

Before the shift in the downtown emphasis from retail sales to service and dining, the big shindig was known as Crazy Days. It seemed like everyone in town would show up as early as humanly possible to get the best deals. Now that Crazy Days has turned into the Festival, the deals are still there, and early risers will have plenty of sales to choose from downtown, with vendors, crafters and businesses joining the party.

The early bird will still get the worm, but now there are plenty of offerings for the late bird, too, including First Congregational Church’s rummage sale, craft vendors and Stutsman Harley-Davidson’s bikes on display.

Children can play on inflatable games by the Education Center, ride Victory Lutheran Church’s barrel train or play summer games offered by Jamestown Parks and Recreation. Everyone can watch the Jamestown Gymnastics Club’s performance at 11:30 a.m., followed by the Top of the Stairs Dancers at noon. The ping pong ball drop will be at 1 p.m., with plenty of prizes for kids and adults.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Indian tacos, fry bread, hamburgers, bratwurst, hot dogs and other summer treats will be available.

It’s a great time to get festive.
