WI man charged after ND water rescue is sentenced

A Wisconsin man who was charged after being rescued from a flooded North Dakota road has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor reckless endangerment but won't serve jail time.

WAHPETON, N.D. (AP) — A Wisconsin man who was charged after being rescued from a flooded North Dakota road has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor reckless endangerment but won't serve jail time.

The Daily News reports that 22-year-old Joseph Reinke of Janesville, Wis., was given a one-year suspended jail sentence. He'll be on supervised probation during the year. He also must complete 24 hours of community service and pay $750 in restitution. Prosecutors dropped a misdemeanor charge of driving without liability insurance.

Authorities say the student at the State College of Science in Wahpeton and two passengers had to be rescued by boat on April 5 after their pickup truck was swept away by floodwaters in Richland County and became partially submerged.
