BISMARCK (AP) — Recovery from this year’s Missouri River flooding seems to at least be in the planning stage in Bismarck.

The Bismarck Tribune reported that the public works department will ask the city commission on Tuesday to advertise for bids for a contractor to remove and dispose of some 3 million sandbags in the city’s jurisdiction.

Bismarck Public Works Director of Service Operations Jeff Heintz said Houston Engineering is expected to draft the sandbag removal plan, which will include picking the bags up, hauling them to a landfill and separating the sand out of the bags.

Heintz said most of the recovery project will focus on southwest Bismarck.

Engineers are still projecting the cost range.

Heintz said residents should keep their bags in place for now.
