Jaeger now ND 'combative sports' regulator

North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger now has a new job title — state commissioner of combative sports.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger now has a new job title — state commissioner of combative sports.

Jaeger's office is better known for regulating elections and keeping business records. But for years the secretary of state has also been North Dakota's top boxing regulator.

Until Monday the law referred to Jaeger as the state athletics commissioner. Jaeger asked the Legislature to change the label because he sometimes got questions about whether he could regulate high school football and basketball.

Jaeger says the “combative sports” title covers boxing and mixed martial arts fighting. He says the change will make it easier to coordinate state rules with national boxing organizations.
