Plans for Stenehjem's Senate successor in works
Bismarck state Rep. Mike Nathe (NAY’-thee) and former Rep. Ron Carlisle (CAR’-lyle) are likely candidates to fill the North Dakota Senate vacancy left by the death of Bob Stenehjem (STEN’-jum).
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Bismarck state Rep. Mike Nathe (NAY’-thee) and former Rep. Ron Carlisle (CAR’-lyle) are likely candidates to fill the North Dakota Senate vacancy left by the death of Bob Stenehjem (STEN’-jum).
Nathe and Carlisle are both members of the Republican district executive committee that will choose someone to serve out Stenehjem's term. It ends Dec. 1, 2012.
Stenehjem was killed in a traffic accident last week. He represented District 30, which includes parts of Bismarck and rural Burleigh County and the city of Lincoln.
Nathe and Carlisle said Thursday they were considering seeking the appointment.
Nathe was elected to the House in 2008 after Carlisle retired. Carlisle was a Republican House member in the district for 18 years.
The district committee has at least three weeks to choose Stenehjem's successor.
