MINNEWAUKAN, N.D. (AP) — The mayor of Minnewaukan faces another felony charge for allegedly writing another bad check.
The Grand Forks Herald reported that Trish McQuoid allegedly wrote the $2,367 check to the Benson County auditor’s office from the account of a grocery store she recently closed. She’s charged with issuing a check without sufficient funds.
McQuoid declined comment. She’s due in court Aug. 22.
McQuoid pleaded guilty in a similar case in 2009. She was put on probation for a year and a half and ordered to pay restitution and fees totaling about $5,000.
When she closed her store in July, McQuoid said it was in financial trouble because of Devils Lake flooding that has threatened the town for years and prompted more than a third of its residents to leave.
