Chancellor orders DSU athletic department review

North Dakota University System Chancellor William Goetz has ordered a preliminary review of the Dickinson State University athletic department.

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota University System Chancellor William Goetz has ordered a preliminary review of the Dickinson State University athletic department.

University system spokeswoman Debra Anderson tells the Dickinson Press that the process is underway.

She says she cannot comment on what the review will entail.

DSU athletic director Tim Daniel told the newspaper he could not comment because he had not been informed of the review.

The athletic department review comes days after the chancellor asked DSU President Richard McCallum to resign.

The NAIA in December placed the DSU volleyball program and then-head coach Ryan Platt on probation through the 2011-12 school year for violations during the 2010 season. Platt has since resigned.

The violations involved inappropriate conduct and the use of ineligible players.
