BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota program that enables residents to dispose of unwanted or unusable pesticides safely and for free collected almost 95 tons this year.

Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says just under 400 people took advantage of the Project Safe Send program, which holds collections at cities around the state each summer.

He says the numbers show a continuing need for the program that's financed by the fees pesticide manufacturers pay to register their products in North Dakota.

Goehring says that since 1972, more than 7,700 people have used the program to get rid of nearly 1,500 tons of herbicides, insecticides, rodenticides and fungicides.
