GRAND FORKS (AP) — The son of former University of North Dakota hockey great Steve Johnson says he will play for the Fighting Sioux.
Grand Forks high school standout Luke Johnson will join the team for the 2013-14 season. Johnson chose UND over Bemidji State, Nebraska-Omaha and St. Cloud State, where his father is an assistant.
Steve Johnson was a Hobey Baker Award finalist in 1988. Luke Johnson’s uncle, Chad, also played for the Sioux, alongside current head coach Dave Hakstol and assistant coach Dane Jackson.
Luke Johnson will play the next two seasons with the Lincoln Stars of the United States Hockey League. Chad Johnson coaches that team.
