Minot wind turbine blade repaired

Basin Electric Power Cooperative is repairing a broken wind turbine blade on a tower near Minot.

MINOT (AP) — Basin Electric Power Cooperative is repairing a broken wind turbine blade on a tower near Minot.

The Minot Daily News reported that the wind turbine failure happened in April during a storm with high winds.

Basin spokesman Daryl Hill said the company wanted to fix the blade in June but soggy conditions made roads to soft to support cranes and trucks needed to make repairs.

The company says a wind turbine blade weighs more than 7 tons.

The damaged wind turbine is one of 82 wind turbines between Minot and Max. The company says it’s the first time it has had a wind turbine fail.
