Foundation will remain open
North Dakota’s chancellor said a small state university system foundation will keep operating for now, and his successor will decide whether to continue it.
BISMARCK (AP) — North Dakota’s chancellor said a small state university system foundation will keep operating for now, and his successor will decide whether to continue it.
The foundation was created years ago with a contribution from a national pension fund for college employees.
Chancellor William Goetz said it’s been dormant, and has only about $23,000 in assets. He said foundation money has occasionally been used for conferences and meals.
The foundation’s board recently discussed whether it should be shut down, but Goetz wants to keep it alive until his successor is hired next year. Goetz is retiring in August 2012.
He said if the foundation is able to raise money, it could contribute to some campus projects, including the proposed expansion of the University of North Dakota’s medical school.
