FARGO (AP) — North Dakota’s newest high school is officially open for business.

About 110 staff members at Judge Ronald N. Davies High School in Fargo on Monday began preparing for the start of classes Thursday. About 1,050 students will attend the school.

The facility was dedicated over the weekend in a ceremony attended by hundreds of people. The school is named in honor of the former federal judge from Fargo whose 1957 rulings integrated Central High School in Little Rock, Ark. — an event seen as pivotal in the civil rights movement.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer was to speak at the ceremony but failed to make it because of transportation problems. Federal appellate court judges Myron Bright of the 8th Circuit and Mary Schroeder of the 9th Circuit did speak.
