LAMOURE, N.D. — When the first 9-man poll of the season comes out this week, Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter should be at or very near the top.
The high-powered Imperials, who feature a senior-dominated lineup, rolled into LaMoure Saturday night at left with an impressive 42-20 win over the Loboes, who were playing just their second 9-man game after moving down from Class A 11-man.
Imperials quarterback Jonah Schwartzenberger accounted for 256 yards of offense and four touchdowns, spreading the ball around to a deep stable of skill players in a big early-season Region 1 victory.
“It really doesn’t matter who we play or where we play, we expect to win. I’m not trying to sound cocky or anything like that, we just expect to win,” he said. “With the team we have, our goals are high. In our region every game is going to be tough, but we’re going out there to win them all. That’s our goal.”
With the firepower they have, it’s going to take quite an effort to derail them.
“You never want to call the second game of the season a big game, but it was,” Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter coach Kelly McCleary said. “In this region, if you’re able to beat a good team on the road, you have to feel good about that.”
