ND National Guard opening new fire hall in Fargo

Officials say a new fire hall for the North Dakota Air National Guard's 119th Wing in Fargo will reduce the time it takes officials to respond to emergencies involving either military or civilian aircraft at the Hector airfield.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Officials say a new fire hall for the North Dakota Air National Guard's 119th Wing in Fargo will reduce the time it takes officials to respond to emergencies involving either military or civilian aircraft at the Hector airfield.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was being held Wednesday for the $6.5 million project funded by the Air Force as part of an effort to replace aging fire halls across the nation. The original building in Fargo was built in 1955.

The new 22,400-square-foot structure has 13 bays for equipment. The old fire hall was only about half that size, and some equipment had to be stored outdoors, even in the winter.

The new fire hall also has an “alarm room” overlooking the airport, as well as state-of-the-art classroom space for training.
