Valley City State president Dr. Steve Shirley has been named to the NAIA’s Council of Presidents.

Shirley will serve as a member of the Association of Independent Institutions, the same conference Jamestown College, Mayville State, Dickinson State and Dakota State — all former DAC members — are competing in this season.

Shirley is one of three council members that represent the A.I.I. The others are from Thomas University in Thomasville, Ga., and Louisiana State University-Alexandria.

The Council of Presidents deals with all budgetary, fiscal, employment and academic matters of the NAIA.

Shirley was named VCSU’s 12th president in July, 2008. The school has added six varsity sports since then.
