BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring is encouraging gardeners to donate extra produce to organizations that help the hungry.
Goehring says the goal for the second year of the Hunger Free North Dakota Garden Project is 500,000 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables going to food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and charities.
The project is coordinated by the state Agriculture Department and the Great Plains Food Bank. Organizations that accept fresh produce are listed on the Agriculture Department's website, at www.agdepartment.com .
