A Forbes, N.D., farmer was killed Tuesday when a trench gave way, trapping him beneath.
Dickey County Sheriff Jim Bohannon said Kurt Olson, 43, was digging a trench to add a water line for cattle Tuesday.
“It’s not clear whether Olson was in the trench or on top of it when it covered him with dirt,” Bohannon said.
Family found him on the farm about two miles east of Forbes and reported it to officials around 6:45 p.m. The Dickey County Sheriff’s Department as well as the Ellendale Fire Department and Ellendale Ambulance Service responded. Olson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bohannon said he’s unsure how much time had passed between the collapse and when Olson’s body was found. No one was with him at the time.
Arrangements are pending with Hoven Funeral Chapel in Ellendalem N.D.
