Laird, Hodur compete for ND Dem chairman's job

A Fargo attorney and a former president of the North Dakota Education Association are competing to become chairman of North Dakota's Democratic Party.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A Fargo attorney and a former president of the North Dakota Education Association are competing to become chairman of North Dakota's Democratic Party.

The party's district chairmen and other officials are meeting in Fargo Saturday to choose between Greg Hodur and Max Laird for the position. Incumbent chairman Mark Schneider is stepping down.

Laird is a former science teacher in Grand Forks. He is retired and now lives in Bismarck. He was president of the NDEA for four years.

Laird is a longtime North Dakota Democratic activist. He ran unsuccessfully for state school superintendent in 2004 and 2008, and lost a race for the state Senate in 2002.

Hodur has been a lawyer in Fargo for 10 years. He's a former congressional staffer and lobbyist for the American Hospital Association.
