ND rancher to plead guilty in mortgage fraud case
A North Dakota rancher says he will plead guilty to selling mortgaged cattle, horses and vehicles and keeping the money.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota rancher says he will plead guilty to selling mortgaged cattle, horses and vehicles and keeping the money.
Quinton Osborn, of Napoleon, is charged with conversion of mortgaged property. The charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
Authorities say the transactions totaled more than $115,000 and were completed without the permission or endorsement of the Farm Service Agency.
Court documents show that Osborn received more than $97,000 in checks for sales to livestock barns in North and South Dakota.
Osborn allegedly crossed off Farm Service Agency from the checks and deposited them in his own account.
