FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Representatives of prominent Japanese flour milling companies are in North Dakota this week to get a better understanding of U.S. wheat breeding, production and marketing systems.
The North Dakota Wheat Commission says Japan is consistently the top buyer of hard red spring wheat, the staple of North Dakota's agriculture industry. Japan imported 60 million bushels of hard red spring during the 2010-11 marketing year, the second-largest quantity on record.
The Japanese delegation is in North Dakota through Tuesday, meeting with breeders and quality specialists at North Dakota State University in Fargo, visiting a grain business in Casselton and touring a farm near Mapleton.
