DSU enrollment inflated more than first thought
North Dakota higher education officials say Dickinson State University enrollment figures last fall were inflated more than initially thought.
DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota higher education officials say Dickinson State University enrollment figures last fall were inflated more than initially thought.
University System Vice Chancellor Michel (MY’-kuhl) Hillman tells The Dickinson Press that officials thought the count was off by 180, but the number is now 213. He says the change involves "dual credit" courses in which high school students can receive college credits.
The change brings DSU's fall 2010 student count to 2,455, compared to 2,346 this fall.
The Board of Higher Education this summer approved firing DSU President Richard McCallum after an auditor's report said he played a key role in inflating enrollment numbers. McCallum says enrollment recording mistakes were quickly corrected, and he's requested a hearing to challenge the board's decision. The hearing is Oct. 19 in Bismarck.
