BISMARCK (AP) — A high school food fight has gotten a rural North Dakota school board in trouble.
The food throwing happened in the Surrey school cafeteria last May 17. It started when a senior girl threw broccoli at a group of senior boys. Surrey is less than 10 miles east of Minot.
The school board held an emergency meeting about five hours later to discuss how to respond. Some of the food fighters were scheduled to graduate in a few days.
The board didn’t give public notice of its meeting. Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem said in an opinion Friday that the board violated North Dakota’s open meetings law.
