New pipeline to be bored in Bismarck

BISMARCK (AP) — A water line that ruptured when the Garrison Dam spillway gates were opened this summer for the first time in history because of Missouri River flooding is to be repaired this week.

The underground line delivers water treated at Riverdale across the dam to federal facilities, Pick City, rural cabin sites and Lake Sakakawea State Park. When it ruptured, officials had to put up a temporary aboveground pipe.

North Central Rural Water Consortium engineer Darrell Hournbuckle told The Bismarck Tribune that the new crossing will be bored much deeper. The project will cost about $300,000, some of which the consortium hopes will be reimbursed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
