Authorities say people who have reported an oil spill on a North Dakota lake are likely mistaking algae for oil. Three Affiliated Tribes emergency services director Cliff Whitman said his office has received several calls about the material in the water on Lake Sakakawea near New Town.
NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) — Authorities say people who have reported an oil spill on a North Dakota lake are likely mistaking algae for oil.
Three Affiliated Tribes emergency services director Cliff Whitman said his office has received several calls about the material in the water on Lake Sakakawea near New Town.
The North Dakota Health Department is testing the water as a precaution.
Whitman told the Minot Daily News that he’s thankful that residents reported the situation, even though it will likely turn out to be harmless.
