Firm to look for new Dickinson site for man camp

A company proposing a temporary facility to house up to 600 oil field workers won't pursue plans to build it next to a residential area in Dickinson.

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — A company proposing a temporary facility to house up to 600 oil field workers won't pursue plans to build it next to a residential area in Dickinson.

The Dickinson Press reports that Target Logistics President Joe Murphy says the company will instead look at other locations within city limits.

The so-called man camps are springing up throughout the booming western North Dakota oil patch because of a shortage of housing. Some Dickinson residents spoke against the proposed Target Logistics site, and the Dickinson Planning and Zoning Commission last week also opposed it.

The company could have taken its request for a permit to the City Commission, but Murphy says it instead will work with local officials to find a better site.
