As of Wednesday, Jamestown Kiwanis Club has raised $17,000 in its goal of raising $23,000 for Kids Against Hunger. The deadline is Oct. 14 to raise up to $25,000 that will be matched by an anonymous donor.

The funds will be used to purchase ingredients for 250,000 meals for Kids Against Hunger. This program packages highly nutritious, life-saving meals for starving and malnourished children and their families in developing countries and the United States. Following the fundraising, Jamestown will hold a packaging event where volunteers will assemble the meals. The packaging date is set for Oct. 29 at the R.M. Stoudt showroom near the Buffalo Mall. Four hundred volunteers will be needed for the event.

Janna Bergstedt, Kiwanis member and event organizer, expressed her appreciation to those who have donated and encouraged others to donate by Oct. 14 in order to help raise the most funds for the event.

Donations are accepted at First Community Credit Union, 111 Ninth St. SW or 606 25th St. SW in Jamestown. They can also be mailed to First Community Credit Union, PO Box 2180, Jamestown, ND 58402-2180. Checks can be made out to the Kiwanis Club of Jamestown.

In addition to sending meals to countries in dire need of food relief, the Kiwanis Club also plans to donate at least 1,000 meals to local food pantries.
