Air Force chief visits flood-recovery work

MINOT (AP) — The Air Force’s chief of staff got a firsthand look this week at flood recovery efforts in Minot.

Gen. Norton Schwartz told the Minot Daily News that the military will take two immediate steps to help airmen affected by Souris River flooding — postponing the scheduled demolition of several dormitories at Minot Air Force Base to help with housing needs, and considering bringing in electricians from elsewhere in the Air Force. He said he noticed during his trip to Minot this week that electricians are in high demand.

Schwartz also said military members who come to the Minot base can’t bring their families until the housing situation stabilizes.

The flooding impacted more than 1,100 Minot base airmen and their families.
