Williams County sets fee on man camps
Temporary facilities housing oil field workers in Williams County will now be required to pay a permit fee, a move that is expected to bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars to the county every year.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — Temporary facilities housing oil field workers in Williams County will now be required to pay a permit fee, a move that is expected to bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars to the county every year.
The Williston Herald reported that the Williams County Commission approved a measure to charge $1.50 per square foot of the so-called “man camps” before a building permit will be issued.
Director of Tax Equalization Shawna Gooch-Egge said county officials analyzed one man camp north of Williston and estimated its permit fee was about $30,000.
Gooch-Egge said the county is planning an audit to determine exactly how many people are living in the man camps. Planning and Zoning officials estimate approximately 9,400 beds are permitted in the temporary facilities.
