The Barnes County Historical Society Lecture Series will present the Rev. Dorothy (Darcy) Borden speaking on “Church Suppers and Potlucks, a Definition of Community” at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Barnes County Museum.
For some a church supper or a potluck it is a chance to see friends, be in fellowship with others, and just to eat some great food. For some it is a chance to show a specialty of their community, church or otherwise. For others it is a chance to help someone or to outreach to the wider community where they are. Or it could be all of the above.
Borden is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ and has lived in Valley City with her family since 2007, when her husband the Rev. Carleton (Carl) Borden was called as minister and teacher of the Congregational United Church of Christ of Valley City. Darcy herself serves as the acting minister and pastor for the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Jamestown, and the Zion United Church of Christ of Medina, N.D.
Also at the lecture, some church and potluck cookbooks will be available to look at, as well as the Congregational United Church of Christ of Valley City’s new cookbook for sale.
All lectures are at the Barnes County Historical Society Museum and held in conjunction with Valley City State University. They are free and open to the public.
