Small ND town debates proposed gas facility
A proposed facility that would store natural gas for loading onto railroad cars is raising safety concerns in the southwest North Dakota town of Belfield.
DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — A proposed facility that would store natural gas for loading onto railroad cars is raising safety concerns in the southwest North Dakota town of Belfield.
Bear Tracker Energy LLC wants the town to rezone land less than a mile outside city limits and grant a permit for the $10 million facility. The Dickinson Press reports that if the facility could store up to 1 million gallons of gas. Zoning board member Kevin Hushka says, “man alive, that is a lot of gas close to town.”
Bear Tracker President Dave Keanini says the facility would be safe, and the zoning board isn't opposing it. But members do feel the public should be more involved in the decision, and they plan to hold a public meeting. A date wasn't immediately scheduled.
