Minot school will be replaced

MINOT (AP) — Sen. John Hoeven said that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has determined that Minot’s flood damaged Lincoln Elementary School is eligible for replacement.
The senator said the school suffered extensive damage, and building a new school made more sense than trying to restore the existing structure. It will cost about $5.8 million to replace the 25,000-square-foot building.
The Minot Public School Board decided earlier this month that the school would need to be torn down.
Hoeven said FEMA notified Superintendent Mark Vollmer of its decision, allowing the school district to decide on the location and design of the new building.
FEMA in September approved the replacement of Ramstad Middle School, which is estimated to cost about $26.2 million.
