Hornets, Tornadoes top final football polls

Nothing changed in the final Class A high school football poll of the season this week, but the same can’t be said over on the 9-man side of things.

Nothing changed in the final Class A high school football poll of the season this week, but the same can’t be said over on the 9-man side of things.

The final 9-man poll received a severe overall after previously No. 5-ranked Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter knocked off then No. 1 Wyndmere-Lidgerwood 16-6, and previously No. 2-ranked North Star fell on the road to Benson County 26-16 in the final round of regular-season games last Friday night.

As a result, the undefeated Cavalier Tornadoes (9-0) took over the top spot, with Napoleon-GS (8-1) jumping up all the way to No. 2 and Divide County (9-0) filling in the third spot after being unranked one week ago.

Each of those teams received first-place votes, with Cavalier earning 6, Divide County garnering 5 and Napoleon-GS receiving 3.

Wyndmere-Lidgerwood (8-1) plummeted all the way to No. 4 in the poll, while North Star (8-1) fell from second to fifth.

As they have all season, the Harvey-Wells County Hornets (8-0) remained top dog in the Class A poll, receiving all 14 first-place votes. Hazen (8-0), Stanley-Powers Lake (8-0), Linton-HMB (7-1) and Heart River (7-1) rounded out the top five, respectively, as they did last week.

Oakes (7-1) and Velva (6-2) also received votes.

The high school 9-man and Class A football polls are voted on by the North Dakota Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.
